Mascara is without a doubt one of those products that most women would not dream of leaving the house without and once you have found your trusted favourite changing is not done without research and recommendations from trusted sources. I have around 20 mascaras in my work bag at any time ranging from waterproof, curl activating, lengthening ,black , brown, clear and the list goes on…
Unfortunately there are some surprisingly toxic ingredients in some mascaras which immediately affect those with sensitive eyes. When you look at the ingredients list on your mascara you might notice they have listed fragrance, this could be a combination of 1000’s of nasties as they are not obliged to list a breakdown, as it falls under trade secrets. Look out for Parabens, Coal Tar, Phenoxyethanol, Petrolatum, Nanoparticles, Synthetic fragrance, Propylene Glycol, Phthalates, Formaldehyde, Lead Compounds, BHT, BHA, DEA. Some ingredients even list wheat so if you are intolerant this might be the culprit causing your itchy watery eyes.
After hearing many good things about the Well PeopleExpressionist Mascara it went to the top my of my list of ones to try, I did not realise how popular it was until being promptly waitlisted before I could get my hands on it! The other is the Volumising Waterproof Mascara by Ere Perez … the only Waterproof Mascara I have found on the market by a natural cosmetics company. It does however contain Dimethicone (a silicone emulsifier that helps ingredients to blend), this is present in most waterproof mascaras…could be a deal breaker for some as it could be an irritant.
AFTER – Well People Mascara
Well People Expressionist Pro Black Mascara gets a 10/10 from me! It stays on all day and there is no flaking. The black is super black and has a very wet consistency which dries quickly, you can really layer on the coats to build thick glossy lashes. The brush is very good at getting in between all of the lashes and after a couple of months the consistency is not gloopy at all. Using it on the lower lashes did prove a bit trickier as oil in my skin did make it smudge a bit but if you can check through the day and not use an oily concealer under the eyes and/or a setting powder you should be fine. This is one to try if you have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses. A reasonable £18.50 with four colours in the range.

AFTER – Ere Perez Mascara
Ere Perez Waterproof Black Mascara is truly waterproof and won’t budge all day. The recommendation for removal is a little bit of sweet almond oil and a light massage into the lashes or make up remover, it really does not come of easily which proves how waterproof this WP Mascara really is! The texture is drier and thicker as there is no water in the ingredients which makes application trickier, this is probably why you will read some reviews with less favourable views. There was a tiny bit of flaking once it was dry, most likely due to the quantities of wax in the ingredients. I also brushed a tiny bit through my brows and the waxiness kept them in check, multi purpose in a pinch £18.50
EP Waterproof Black Ingredients:Carnauba wax (copernicia cerifera), Palm wax (elaeis guineensis), Soybean wax (glycine soja), Dimethicone, Calcium stearate, Mamey oil (pouteria sapota), Avocado oil (persea gratissima), Sweet almond oil (prunus amygdalus dulcis), Isopropyl palmitate, Palmitic acid, Tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), Orange oil (citrus aurantium dulcis), Lemon oil (citrus medica limonum), Bergamot oil (citrus bergamia), Iron oxides.
I will be using these two as a combo, Well People on the top lashes and Ere Perez on the lower lashes to avoid panda eyes :)
